Goodell, Jones Lobby Texas Legislators

NFL commissioner, Cowboys owner want arbitration with cable companies

By John Maher -- Austin American-Statesman, 12/11/2007

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones took the NFL Network's dispute with some of the country's biggest cable television companies to Texas legislators Monday.

"This is not a level playing field," Jones told members of the Texas House Committee on Regulated Industries.

"This thing does have the interest of hundreds of thousands of your constituents," said Jones, who also is the chairman of the NFL Network committee.

The politicians were all too aware of that.

The NFL vs. cable issue became a big deal all across Texas on Nov. 29, when the NFL Network aired the NFC showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. The problem was that a lot of Cowboys fans — including most of those in Austin — couldn't get the game on their cable systems.
